La fontaine de la rue Alsace-Lorraine
Deux fontaines dont celle-ci sont déjà mentionnées sur les registres municipaux du XVIIIe siècle. Elles font partie d’un réseau important qui parcourait toute la ville en raison de sa position au pied d’un coteau. Il y en avait rue de la Charre, place de la marine, rue Fontaine des marins, ... Ces fontaines participent aux besoins de la population mais également au ravitaillement des nombreux bateaux qui accostaient au port
The Fountain of rue Alsace-Lorraine:
2 fountains including this one were already mentioned in the town registers of the 18th century. They are part of an extensive network covering the whole town owing to its location at the foot of a hill. They could be found rue de la Charre, Place de la Marine, rue Fontaine des Marins, …Those fountains served the needs of the population as well as those of the many ships drawing along the embankment.
Der Brunnen der „rue Alsace-Lorraine“ :
Zwei Brunnen, darunter dieser, wurden schon im 18. Jahrhundert in den städtischen Registern erwähnt. Sie sind Teil eines Brunnennetzes, das die ganze Stadt durchquerte, da sie am Fuss eines Abhangs liegt. Andere Brunnen befanden sich „rue de la Charre“, „place de la Marine“, „rue Fontaine des marins“, … Diese Brunnen dienen sowohl den Stadtbewohnern als auch der Versorgung der zahlreichen Schiffe im Hafen.
La fontaine du quai des Capucins
Ces fontaines situées dans toute la ville ont servi non seulement à ravitailler les navires arrivant au port mais également à alimenter la ville voisine de Rochefort dont les besoins augmentent considérablement avec l’implantation de son arsenal. Cette fontaine du XIXe s. en est un exemple avec son système à balancier permettant, entre autre, de distribuer l’eau aux passagers et animaux qui empruntaient le bac. Sur l’autre rive, on distingue encore la maison du passeur.
The fountain of the Capuchin embankment:
These fountains located all over the town were used not only to provide for the needs of the ships drawing along the embankment but also for those of the neighbouring town Rochefort which increased considerably with the settlement of its naval dockyard.
This 19th century fountain is a good example with its balance wheelsystem, which could also supply with water the passers-by and animals using the ferry. On the opposite bank the ferryman’s house is still visible.
Brunnen (Quai des Capucins)
Diese Brunnen, an mehreren Orten der Stadt, versorgten nicht nur die Schiffe mit Wasser, sondern auch das nahegelegene Rochefort, dessen Wasserbedarf seit dem Bau des Arsenals erheblich gestiegen war. Der Brunnen mit seinem Pendelsystem diente auch den Tieren und Passagieren der Fähre. Am anderen Flussufer kann man noch das Fährmanshaus erkennen.
